About Reality Labs at Meta
Reality Labs (RL), a division of Meta, is focused on creating cutting-edge Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) tools designed to bring people closer together. Their work revolves around deep research and innovation in areas such as computer vision, machine learning, and haptic technology. RL’s mission is to redefine how people interact across distances by developing hardware and software that accurately capture and replicate human appearance, movement, and expressions, making virtual interactions feel physically present.
Their long-term vision is to build a metaverse where digital and real-world experiences blend seamlessly. The XR Codec Interactions and Avatars team plays a key role in this vision by advancing technologies that support authentic social interactions, including hyper-realistic avatars (Codec Avatars) and other immersive experiences.
