Job Purpose
As part of the Environment Permitting Team you will be instrumental in challenging and influencing our Environmental Regulator, the Environment Agency, to ensure we achieve the best outcome for the business. You will prepare and submit permit applications to the EA, to ensure the business has permits to conduct its activities, through the collation of data from the business, completion of application forms, liaison with the business and EA and recording and monitoring of progress.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
As an Environment Permitting Coordinator you will be responsible for the processing and delivery of permit applications ensuring that statutory requirements and internal SLAs and are met and having end to end ownership of all aspects of permit applications You will also be responsible for:
- Applying for emergency consents to discharge (S166) as required to the business.
- Supporting the logging of the delivery of the Wholesale capital programme Water Industry National Environment Programme schemes to enable appropriate updates to be given to the EA.
- Maintaining effective communications with the EA on all matters relating to obtaining permits
- Inputting to the development of communications and communications templates, to ensure the wider business is understands their regulatory permit requirements
- Production of management information to communicate progress against the permit delivery plan and adherence to processes and procedures
- Input to the preparation and tracking of regulatory correspondence from the Environment Permitting Team (e.g. letters to the EA, OFWAT, Defra). Maintain and accurate log of correspondence, available to whole team.
- Updating systems owned by the Environment Permitting Team associated with the storage, retrieval and auditing permit information
- Undertaking ongoing tracking and monitoring of permit charges from the EA to ensure they are correct
- Preparing payment of EA bills and support evidence required to get these payments signed off within the business
- Gathering and collating evidence to support challenges of the EA bills where UU believe them to be inaccurate
- Data contributor for Regulatory Reporting lines and tables
- Reliable, accurate and complete data available for regulatory reporting deadlines, with a clear audit trail
Technical Skills & Experience
You will have a good understanding of water, wastewater and bioresources assets specifically focused on permit requirements of these assets (water quality, waste, abstraction). You will also be extremely computer literate with excellent knowledge of SharePoint, Excel, GIS, SAP and other relevant computer systems to enable permit applications and reporting of progress. You will also have;
- Strong analytical skills
- Good oral and written communication skills and be comfortable dealing with a range of external and internal stakeholders
- Excellent influencing and organisational skills
- Good understanding of invoicing procedures and how to raise and manage payments
- Experience of working to a programme of delivery and of meeting strict (e.g. Regulatory) deadlines
- Understanding of EA permitting procedures and guidance
- Operational experience
