About the Company
Focused Energy is pioneering compact, laser-driven radiation sources (LDRS) that merge MeV X-rays and fast neutrons into a single, modular platform for real-time, non-destructive inspection. Our cross-disciplinary team of laser physicists, engineers, and AI experts is building a pilot facility in Biblis, Germany, to drive applications in nuclear waste analysis, contraband detection, infrastructure inspection, and medical isotope production.
About the Role
As a Computer Vision Engineer, you will develop and deploy advanced image reconstruction and machine-learning algorithms that turn raw detector output into high-quality industrial images. You’ll work at the intersection of imaging science, physics, and software to enable reliable, production-grade inspection solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and optimize image-processing pipelines: denoising, artifact correction, stitching.
- Design and implement high-performance CT reconstruction (e.g. FBP, SART/SIRT).
- Train and deploy AI models for defect detection, segmentation, and material classification.
- Define control logic for automated stabilization using system diagnostics.
- Validate algorithms under real-world conditions to meet industrial accuracy standards.
- Integrate vision solutions with hardware via robust APIs and data contracts.
- Own deliverables from prototype through deployment, collaborating across disciplines.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in industrial or medical image processing and algorithm development.
- Expertise in CT reconstruction techniques and raw detector data handling.
- 4+ years training and deploying deep-learning models with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Proven production deployment of models (e.g. U-Net, YOLO) for inspection tasks.
- Proficiency in Python and modern MLOps toolchains.
- Experience leading projects and aligning results with system-level goals.
- Fluent English; Germany-based preferred with regular travel to Darmstadt.
